About Mickleover Sports Football Club

A view from the dugout

A new year and two wins 10goals scored what more can a manager want MORE OFF THE SAME .  After our performance at Parkgate i asked the players to show more commitment . This as certianly been the case our last home game at home saw us entertain Eccleshill changes were going to be made but new players were amust as well . So i had been in contact with a few people enquiring about players , and i was pleased to welcome back an old favourite with sports fans Karl Yeomans into the fold . Knowing what  he can give us he was straight in the team.  Out went  Holness ,  Wilson,  Spencer and O'Reilly in came Bettridge ,Slater , Oliver , Hoyle
Playing on a wet pitch with the goal mouths like a area where pigs might be happy rolling in we started off on the front foot and quickly force a couple of early corners but fail to trouble the visitors goal. Against the run of play we go behind to  bad defensive play. with Hoyley getting too tight and being easily turned. What would the reponse be well we get back into the game with Slates switching flanks to his prefered right side becoming more of a threat, and from a attack down the right Middi gets on the end to put us level . Soon after Middi doubles the score this time beating the offside trap to put us in front. Perhaps the little prep talk before the game citing to him that he had only scored 1 goal in twelve games and that was not good enough might have sowed the seed . Really we should have been 2or 3 up by the break but alas it was not to be . Our achillies heel this season has been the first 10 mins of the second half , so at half time i stressed the importance about it , well i may aswell have gone in to the bar and had a pint with Pritch . The equaliser as good a goal as it was we should have dealt with the situation better, the next goal was again bad defensive play by Blounty & Hoyley , turn to Tom on the bench ask how longs gone reply 10mins.
Could we dig ourselves out of the hole well if it was'nt for Tolly it would have been alot harder he pulled of a great save to keep us in with a chance . Hoyley who had been booked earlier committed another foul by the visitors dugout , this led to a melee with their players and staff wanting him to see red .Which after what seemed an eternity and the football being thrown at each other that happened much to the delight of the visitors number10 ,but the smile was taken off his face when their left back followed along with the manager to the stand . Well we seemed to draw strength from this Blounty scoring from a free-kick, and then two well taken goals by Slates saw us run out deserved winners .
With our game on Wednesday cancelled due a flooded pitch we set of on our travels, this time to Glasshoughton who were bottom of the league so we knew that we really should come away the points if we performed like we did last week (minus 10mins). One change from the team was the addition of another old face TomBettridge who has joined us from Gresley Rovers on a game to game basis to get match fit.Jamie Barrett returned but had to settle for a place on the bench.  This meant that Liam Oliver was left out but he's a young lad and an important squad member , also Joe Ward was left out. Straight from the start Slates his sent clear but instead of getting his shot away he delays and it comes to nothing , but soon after another attack down the right finishes with their defender putting through his goal. Chances came and went Holmsey hitting the bar and then missing a easier chance putting it wide . This we were made to pay for as again bad defending firstly by Chambo and then by Hoyly ,allowed the winger to cross and for the centre forward unmarked to head home . But we get back in front this time good play from Middi saw Holmsey scoring from close range .  2-1 at half-time deja vous came to mind ,for once tried to focus on the positive things from the first-half ,not the next 10mins .
Start the second better with Tom Bettridge working the left flank well and his link up play with Holmsey linking well . Slates on the other flank was quiet but from good play with Middi sees Holmsey score his second . Now we astart to dominate and further goals from Middi and Slates see us cruise to a comfortable win . We now need to take it on further and our next game will test us to the limit with the visit of Winterton Rangers to station rd . Work in training will be on Adam Bettridge taking THROWS . also new faces will be in place with another forward joining ,Mark Finley from Holbrook . So until next time its upwards and upwards we go .
